When convicted killers Bowie (Keith Carradine), Chicamaw (John Schuck) and T-Dub (Bert Remsen) escape from prison, they return to the only thing they know, bank robbery, embarking on a crime spree across 1930s rural Mississippi. Along the way, Bowie begins a touching romance with Keechie (Shelley Duvall), a local farm girl who longs for him to abandon his life of crime.
