Jess Franco stars in one of his most personal films in which 2/3 of it is made up of extracts from EXORCSIME (1974) and the roughly other 1/3 of the film was filmed with new sequences in 1979. Both movies, EXCORCISM and THE SADIST OF NOTRE DAME are separate and distinct movies.

In this film Franco plays Mathis Vogel who has recently escaped from a mental institution in Paris. Near the Notre-Dame cathedral Vogel kills a prostitute after she propositions him. The next day he goes back to the cathedral to pray and is recognized by a priest that he went to seminary school with. Mathis avoids him and later that night kills another woman to set her free from her sins. Eventually Vogel is convinced that his divine mission is to cleans the world of its sins.

He goes on a torture and killing spree which includes the editor and a secretary (Romay) of a magazine that is printing the story about Vogel's murders. Also stars Olivier Mathot, Monica Swinn, Daniel White and Pierre Taylou.
