THE LOVELESS Kathryn Bigelow made her feature film debut as a director with this stylish homage to the 1954 classic "The Wild One." Trouble ensues when a motorcycle gang stops in a small southern town while heading to the races at Daytona. Leading the gang is the tough, unemotional Vance, who becomes attracted to Telena, a pretty young local girl. The bikers also include Debbie, a blonde who proves to be just as tough as the guys in the gang. Bigelow and co-director Monty Montgomery concentrate more on character and mood than plot, and have included a lot of rockabilly music throughout the film. A group of reckless bikers, on their way to the Florida cycle races, stop for lunch in a small town diner. There they wreak general havoc, and as night falls, the local townspeople make plans for revenge.

SMITHEREENS A 19-year-old girl flees the drudgery of her working-class New Jersey home with the idea of becoming a rock star in the urban wilds of New York City. After losing her job and getting evicted from her rathole apartment, her prospects look dim, but she refuses to abandon her dream, even at the behest of a van-dwelling Vermonter who wants to take her away from the Big Apple stink
This acclaimed independent movie marked the feature film debut of director Susan Seidelman (DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN). SMITHEREENS tells the story of Wren, a 19-year-old girl from New Jersey who comes to New York City with a dream of making it big in the world of rock music--despite the fact that she can't sing, play an instrument or write songs. Once in the city, she gets a job at a photocopy store and, in her free time, pastes up photos of herself throughout the subway system with the question "Who Is This?" on each one. Much to her disappointment, nobody cares enough to find out. Among the many people she meets on her ill-fated quest for stardom are Paul, a sweet guy from Montana who lives in a van near the Hudson River, and Eric, a self-involved rock performer. Although she becomes romantically involved with both of these men, she finds Paul too nice for her taste, while Eric merely uses her for his own benefit.
