As with his next giallo assignment, RIVELAZIONI DI UN MANIACO SESSUALE AL CAPO DELLA SQUADRA MOBILE (SO SWEET, SO DEAD), he here delivers a masterful exercise in both fear and fashion - spilled blood and guts in the sleek environs of the sophisticated elite. The themes, which vacillate between eroticism and delicate, almost childlike femininity, function as perfumed reflections of the exaggerated visual allure of the giallo whilst simultaneously being esthetic buffers against the usually horrific violence. The great majority of the compositions on this disc similarly show Gaslini to be perfectly suited to the genre. These designs are arguably the finest abstractions produced in support of the Italian cinematic thriller. The music has a precision and clarity not commonly found, with the voice of individual instruments remaining distinct and demanding of attention, and this compels a rather sharp visualization of the cool mathematics and intellectualism that give structure to each ominous formation.
