1969, Lluis Dalmau (Pere Ponce) is a university professor who has been deported to an island where a small community of men and women rely upon the salt mines for their local economy. The inhabitants of the island are debating whether or not they should succumb to tourist urbanization or continue with the industry that has provided for the island since their ancestors first built up the island.

Initially Dalmau wants to flee the island, but he soon becomes seduced by the island and it's inhabitants...especially for a women named Feli (Cristina Plazas). Feli though has a relationship with Patrice, nicknamed "The Belgian", who has a dark past that will be exposed…
