For 13 year old Thomas puberty doesn't come easy as he sees his mother's romantic relationship developing with a friend of his now deceased father. In addition, Thomas is discovering his own feelings for a little girl named Toni. He steals an ancient oriental knife which fascinates him and, with it, tries make an impression on Toni. The knife is also at the center in the tenuous relation between his mother and her friend. After he threatens his mother with the knife, he is sent away to school. There, Thomas must learn to deal with life and consequences.
