Following its 1932 introduction by the Eastman Kodak company, the 8mm home movie film format became the cheaper alternative to shooting 16mm. By the 1950s, 8mm was the preferred format, whether to record junior's 3rd birthday party, a family's vacation travelogue, or a big-breasted burlesque dancer's erotic strip-tease. Guess which one evolved into marketable commodity? Suddenly these 8mm nudie films, known as 'loops' or 'stags' and designed to be shown in the privacy of one's home, were available over-the-counter in camera stores and adult bookstores. Unceremoniously packaged in white boxes, they sported photos of the actual female performers and the girls' names thoughtfully stenciled on the sides.

Mail order companies and gentlemen's magazines got into the 8mm biz too, with advertisements interspersed among the back-page gadget ads. The magazines featured topless and scantily clad women in semi-erotic poses, so the stag loops were a natural compliment. Typical mail order loops were 50-foot reels that ran for a few minutes. And the women? They were delectable, knockout beauties with big boobs…typical late 50s, early 60s girls wearing tight toreador pants, big hair, and risqué lingerie.
